Ugland Gård

Tradition - care - quality

WELCOME TO uGLAND GÅRD

Ugland Gård is a dairy farm with a modern, high technology barn with high standards for both animal welfare and efficiency. Extended use of advanced technology, such as milking robots and automated feeding systems, help optimise production and ensure animal welfare.

Breeding is also a key part of our strategy to increase milk production. Through careful selection of breeding animals and the use of modern breeding tools, we work to improve the cow’s genetic traits. Our herd is a pure NRF (Norwegian Red) herd, and we use RedX on our best cows to produce the best heifers for future production.

In our new barn, the cows enjoy a stress-free environment where everything is designed to support their welfare and natural needs. From May to September they have around-the-clock access to pasture .

We are committed to the future of agriculture and regularly host students from agricultural colleges for work placements. We also welcome visits from kindergartens, schools, organisations, or other interested groups. Please contact our heard manager, Marit, if you would like to arrange a visit.

HISTORY

For centuries the Ugland family has made their living from farming, forestry and shipbuilding.

The family settled as farmers in the Vikkilen / Ugland area in the 1600s, and ever since Halvor Olsen Ugland built the sailing ship FORTUNA in 1772, farming and shipping have been important parts of the Ugland family’s business.

The farm became the family’s lifeline during difficult years in the Second World War, and following several expansions and modernisations, the farm evolved from an average milk producer in the 1960s to the largest in Aust-Agder county by the early 2000s.

In 2023, the herd was moved into the brand-new, state-of-the-art barn, where advanced technology ensures efficient production and improved livestock welfare. Today, the farm produces around 700 000 litres of milk yearly and is among the largest milk producers in the region.
