Accident MV Favorita

On Saturday August 24th 2013, the MV Favorita was en route to Japan when during the cleaning operation of a cargo hold one of the crew members fell from a ladder and hit the tank top, head first.

He was evacuated with a helicopter to a hospital in Taiwan, but sadly died underway. The family of the deceased has been informed of this deeply tragic accident and our thoughts go first of all to them and the crew onboard the Favorita.

Authorities have also been informed and the Norwegian “Statens havarikommisjon for transport” (SHT) has commenced a safety investigation of the accident. Ugland Marine Services AS is cooperating and working closely with SHT in conducting its own investigation of the accident. The Favorita is registered in the Norwegian Ships Register (NIS) and has a crew of 23 Filipino seamen. As the accident is being investigated as mentioned above, no further comment can be given at this time.
